Our course follows the National Occupational Standard CH132 for Obtaining Venous Blood Samples to ensure high-quality training.

Part 1 – Theory (Online & In-Person)

  • Roles and legal responsibilities of a phlebotomist

  • Health & safety in the phlebotomy workplace

  • Infection prevention & control

  • Importance of informed consent

  • Anatomy of the venous system

  • Using a tourniquet correctly

  • Managing needle stick injuries (NSI)

  • Dealing with complications of venepuncture

  • Selecting appropriate venepuncture sites

Home Study

  • Short written assignments submitted via email

  • Independent learning using the course handbook & external references

  • Designed to reinforce your knowledge and understanding

Part 2 – Practical Training (In-Person)

Hands-on training with modern simulation equipment:

  • Correct assembly and handling of needles

  • Full venepuncture procedure (before, during & aftercare)

  • Using different systems: Evacuated, Aspiration, and Butterfly

  • Role-play with partners in a supervised environment

  • Practice on dummy arms with realistic veins & simulated blood (no live blood until advanced training)

  • Final practical assessment in a real-world role-play scenario

Home Study

  • Short written assignments submitted via email

  • Independent learning using the course handbook & external references

  • Designed to reinforce your knowledge and understanding

Certification

  • You will receive a fully accredited Certificate of Attendance within two weeks of course completion.

  • Certificate validity: 2 years

  • Option to refresh skills with our Refresher Course before expiry.

  • Pathway to continue training with Advanced Phlebotomy & Live Bloods Courses.
